The story of our foundation
Together with some friends from the neighborhood, I emigrated to Germany in 1989 at the age of 20. Few of us knew the language or the way of life on the other side of the Iron Curtain at that time.
We visited centers for immigrants, took language courses, and took professional measures to adapt to the new living conditions. We experienced separation and longing for our homeland and our families and friends. We experienced firsthand what it means to start a “new beginning” in another country.
That is why I can understand people who flee war, violence or poverty and cross Polish borders in search of a better life. Being on the ground in Poland, I got to know their emotions, desires, and dilemmas.
After getting my friends from Poland and Germany on board, convincing them of my initially small charity action and inspiring them for a longer-term cooperation, the Eugen&Friends Foundation was founded in thought of the Ukrainian refugees and through the overwhelming support. With our activities we do not only want to help, but also to say: We are with you.
